Slamčeva Homestead - A Cultural Monument Print Email

hisa.JPGThe Slamčeva homestead is a protected cultural monument due to the value of its authentic Karst architecture. Despite its stylish and modern renovation, the building has done well to maintain the soul of an original Karst house, having lasted for more than 400 years.
It exhibits a steep roof covered with locally sourced stone slate that lines the original windows, wooden floors and stairs. The garden is always left open, a sign in the Karst that indicates to both locals and travellers that visitors are always welcome.

Pliskovica Youth Hostel Print Email

The Hostel was created as a result of the co-operation between the municipality of Sežana, the EU PHARE Program, the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Heritage and hard-working and enthusiastic locals, who first opened its doors in June 2003.
The Hostel's mission is to develop sustainable tourism and to integrate the Hostel's stakeholders into the karst region and beyond. We also aim to build long-term networks and partnerships whilst meeting the needs of our guests, the environment, our employees and our owners.
Its success since its conception in 2003 can be used as an indicator that the Hostel is on track to become a significant partner of the development of tourism in the Karst region, and in Slovenia as a whole. Pliskovica Youth Hostel remains one of the leading youth hostels in Slovenia and has set a fine example concerning the implementation of traditional crafts and skills in tourism products and it is quickly becoming a mandatory stop for travellers visiting Slovenia.
